The conservation and management of Ducks Unlimited (DU) is second to none in wetland and waterfowl ecology. I decided to blog about Ducks Unlimited because I love to duck hunt and wanted to know more about what other people have to say and put into waterfowl hunting. When you think of wetlands and waterfowl you think the area must have water already on it, but that’s not all ways the case. DU has millions of acres that consist of dry farm land that becomes wetlands for the waterfowl hunting season.
I got my interest around the age of 9 when my dad decided it was time for me to
hit the Katy, Texas prairie with him. My father guided waterfowl hunts for a
side job for around 8 years. I hunted with him for a few years until I started
helping a family friends guiding business. Once I learned the ropes of putting
out a duck and goose spread I branched off, as a young 16 year old wanting to
hunt waterfowl all the time. Ever since then I have been going waterfowl hunting
every chance I get. Waterfowl hunting is some of the best friendship bonding a
man could ask for. Some of the best mornings I have had in my young life were
spent in a duck blind telling stories and making memories. I am a hunting guide
in south Texas for whitetail deer and can honestly say waterfowl hunting is the
way to go if you’re looking for a good hunt with friends or family. Not only do
you get to have a blast with your friends but watching the dog work is a sight
to see in its self. Getting to shoot more than once “hopefully” is never a bad
thing for a passionate hunter. All the different kinds of habitat and wetlands
you get to experience wail in a waterfowl hunting spot is well worth the trip in
its self.
I have found myself not much of a blogger but reading blogs all the time and
responding to the ones I have a question about. DU has set up a wetlands/duck
hunting blog page called “Duck Fever”. Many people get on this blog page and
share the new found ideas that they used in the fields and had success with.
Also when waterfowl season comes around it is a busy page with everybody posting
their pictures of success and letting you know were the hot spots are. Duck
Fever is a great wetland and waterfowl blog site, its friendly people who will
answer any questions you have Duck Fever related and love to talk about wetlands
and waterfowl.
After looking at the DUs website for years reading blogs and learning more about
wetlands I see there are people just like me who put their heart and soul into
trying to better off waterfowl and there habitat. I know DU got its start in
1937 way before I was even thought of but show’s how much people care about
wetland hunting. DU is a non-profit organization that gets all their money
through donations. DU raises millions of dollars each year to put back into
wetland conservation. They have conservation land all over the world. Canada,
Mexico and the United States of America all have millions of acre’s dedicated to
managing wetlands for waterfowl. DU is the biggest organization for a wildlife
species. I hope you look more into Ducks Unlimited and see what all they have to
offer. There a great organization who is trying to save and better off the
wetlands we still have for the millions of waterfowl that live amongst us.
