C.C.O.U.'s Community Benevolence Project Outline
Throughout the year, families and individuals around the world worry about where their next meal may come from. Simply put, we would like to help people in OUR communities that share that in that struggle. Below is C.C.O.U.'s project outline to inform our reader's of the programs we are working with and how to help battle hunger in South Texas.
Being a media outlet (see mission statement on our home page), we strive to inform our readers of the most interesting, informative, and IMPORTANT events and topics pertinent to outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen of South Texas.
Our Goal
- To bring awareness to the public of the need for wild game donations, made possible by groups like the South Texas Food
Bank and Hunters for the Hungry
- To create an event that allows individuals to bring legally harvested game animals, which will be processed and distributed
to food banks, shelters, and other benevolent organizations with a need for fresh, healthy protein.
The Need
- Our poverty rate is just under 33%! This means that one out of every three citizens in our area lives in poverty and more than
likely have a tough time keeping food on the table for his or her family.
- Even more alarming is the fact that about 42% of all children enrolled in public schools in Laredo are living at or below the poverty level.
Who Donates?
- Local churches, clubs, businesses and any individuals who wishes to cover the costs of processing, packaging and freezing the wild
game meat processing. The frozen meat is then available free of cost in the local food bank or feeding program.
•The game animals can be donated by any one with a valid hunting license.
- South Texas Food Bank
- Since 1989, The South Texas Food Bank seeks to end hunger in South Texas by mobilizing any and all available resources
to fight hunger in our area. By conducting hunger education and awareness campaigns on the realities of hunger in
our area, the Food Bank also seeks to energize the community to get involved and support hunger relief.
- The Food Bank maximizes every dollar you donate. Did you know that for every $1 donated, we can provide: 8 meals, 10 lbs.
of food, or $17 worth of groceries? Did you know that we serve an average of 24,000 families per month year round? This
is why the South Texas Food Bank is one of the most trusted and respected non-profit organizations in our area.
- Hunters for the Hungry
- During the 2011-2012 hunting season, 99 meat processors donated over 150,000 lbs of meat to hunters for the hungry.
- The Hunters for the Hungry Program has been going on for over 20 years and has provided over 2 million lbs of meat.
- Help provide protein to the hungry in your community through wildlife management.
- All deer must be legally tagged and field-dressed.
- The usual processing fee for those who donate the game is usually around $40/animal.

The Event
- Donation weekend at Hibler Wild Game Inc. in Kingsville, TX.
- We created this event to help get the community involved with organizations like Hunters for the Hungry. There are NO
"door prizes" or "give-away's" here. This event is to help those in need of food. Being that it is during the holiday's, we
all should be willing to dig a little deeper from in your pockets or from the field.
- We will be at Hibler's on December 18th and 19th to help receive donated deer and feral pigs (will also accept
domestic livestock if brought in live). REMEMBER, if you're bringing in deer, to only bring them FIELD DRESSED
and TAGGED.
