I feel that a community outdoors trip would really eliminate a lot of stress from the parents. We could have the whole family come for a day to a lake or a camp site with cabins to stay in and enjoy the scenery, and any activities they wish to do. The lake could be available for any of the family members to fish if they’d like and have a nice fish fry for dinner or use the woods and brush to hunt around, which ever they would prefer. There could be playground set up for the younger children that are not old enough to hunt and fish yet, to occupy their time instead of being cooped up in their cabins. They will be provided with utilities to cook, sleep, and bathe. They would be there before the holiday’s just to relax and release all the pressures of the holidays instead of dealing with it their entire holiday vacation. They can first do some morning fishing on the river. This would be great bonding time for fathers and sons and even daughters that love fishing. There can be a hole made for them to make a nice warm bonfire and roast marshmallows at night or just simply enjoy the stars and peacefulness of the nature around them. I think and idea like this would be a great get away for a bit then go back home refreshed with pleasant thoughts of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Coming from a very large family, having the holiday blues is practically a second nature when it comes to family gatherings, especially holidays as important as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every family has their own complications and stressful moments during this wonderful time of the year. I don’t remember the last time our family has actually had a non-stressful holiday gathering. Since our family is so large, I have relatives that travel from out of town. I think this stress factor can relate to most families; flight delays, traffic jams, and other unexpected circumstances that may happen on the road or while traveling. Everyone just hopes their family members are safe and sound but you can’t help and worry until they have arrived. Another stressful subject is space for my family. In the past couple of years we have had many new blessings, so space is a must! You can imagine two year olds and three year old running around the house getting into all sorts of trouble. This could be very frustrating for most families not just mine. So a lot of space is critical or if not then cleaning up after everyone’s mess is another pain in the butt. Whether it is a large or small area, cleaning after everyone will always be a downer for the end of a good night. Having the holiday blues is never a fun thing to have, but when you see your family all together at the end of it all, it seems to be all worth the stress and hassle. No one enjoys being stressed on beautiful holidays like these, so with the help of the members of our organization, we have come up with a few resolutions to help take some of this anxiety and stress away for other families in our community. Taking the younger children out of the crowded houses and away from the trouble, we want to hold a hunting and fishing trip for the kids. This would help out the parents with being able to socialize with other family members. We could get them all together and plan a location and with their parents’permission to keep them occupied while the families set up for dinner or lunch. Another option we thought of was to provide food for families. During hunting season, there are hundreds of does that are not used so they want to start to use that meat and provide it for other families that wish to have an enjoyable Christmas with plenty to eat. This giving of food would definitely bring families closer together if they did not have plans to get together because of the lack of food. It would really make their holiday 10 times better than they expected and not have to worry about what they will eat or have to make. Other options were maybe a hay ride and a bonfire for the kids and family to enjoy. They could roast marshmallows, listen to great music, and enjoy the stars. I think that anyone can say that would be the most relaxing way to go after a stressful day of preparation and organization. Hopefully we can set up a resolution plan to help out as much as possible with different families. I started to enjoy fishing when I started to notice how it gave a sense of peacefulness and relaxation when I was out there with my family. With a family like mine and I’m sure many others can relate, don’t always necessarily get along and tend to disagree a lot. We all have strong opinions and when it comes to picking sides, we are not afraid to express it. But, when fishing is involved or brought up, it’s another world. The subject of fishing is something we can all enjoy to discuss happily together. When we go fishing it brings calmness as we wait for a bite and then excitement when we feel that tug. I ran across this sports fishing magazine online and began to read some blogs written by Doug Olander. Dough Olander is the editor-in-chief and write blogs on a regular basis for the SportsMagazine.docx website about many different concerns and news that he feels should be expressed to anyone who reads his blogs. His writing ideas vary from new statistics that prove fisherman help fuel the economy, to something as simple as his opinion on the toughest fish out there. He has been writing blogs since 2007 and as I read through the titles it amazed me at how much variety his interests show that concern the water, fish, and protecting it in general. A couple of blogs actually caught my attention. I enjoyed reading his 13 Amazing Fishing Secrets from another Dimension blog mainly because I felt that these secrets could help my family and I as well when we take fishing trips, along with anyone else that is interested in expanding their fishing education. Just a couple of tips I took from this was, “tip one: Sport fishing is not a rapid-paced sport, and you will sit for many hours before you even obtain a nibble.” I bet all fishers would definitely agree to this secret because it is 100 percent true. This can be both a relaxing and very frustrating at the same time. I don’t know how many times I’ve spent hours just sitting on the boat taking home nothing but a lobster burn on my legs and cheeks, and raccoon faced tan around my eyes because of wearing sunglasses all day. Tip seven was also another one that is very important for beginner fisherman. “Make sure you have got a sport fishing certification prior to being allowed to go on the drinking water.” Licenses are very important to take with you at all times when you go fishing and everyone should know this before ever going out to fish. Doug’s blog, Make Your Voice Heard to Keep America Fishing was very stimulating to read. Through his blog expresses the passion of ASA (America sport fishing Association) members and KAF (Keep America Fishing) members who want to keep fishing active in America and put a group of about 200,000 anglers and represent them all. He created a website where you can go if you are not a member and to encourage other anglers to join them. Go to keepamericafishing.org for more information on this group. I think it’s important for more people to view this website and take a look at all the other bloggers of this magazine and learn more about them. I feel that others will find these bloggers and their stories educational and feel the concerns and interests as Doug Olander and the other bloggers as well. |
