Feeding the hunger with wild game is starting to occur In many states. What the CCOU can do to help is proving wild game meat that would feed people who don't have much or anything to eat for the holidays. States like Ohio provide organizations with extra deer meat to feed the hungry. This is what we can try to start in Texas. We will talk to big ranches in South Texas and find which ones would be able to provide us with extra deer and wild pork. We will have to get the United States Department of Agriculture to make sure the meat is healthy and acceptable to serve. Then if all this passes we will find the appropriate locations to serve the meals. We will collaborate with other organizations for extra help and support. That way we can have the services more spread out. We will make an abundance of flyers to put in various places. If everything goes according to plan we can start making it an annual event for thanksgiving and Christmas. This should greatly help people who aren't that fortunate to have food for the holidays. This would be a tremendous way my organization can help out with the holiday blues.
Last year, my brother and sister-in-law moved to North Carolina. She was completing a residency for pharmacy school for two years. They discovered many financial needs dealing with travel, rent, and school. When Thanksgiving and Christmas came around they were really skeptical about traveling back to Texas for both holidays. I have a close family and we had never been split apart for the holidays before. They were worried about the cost of flight tickets and renting a vehicle. About a month before Thanksgiving I received news form my brother saying they will not be able to attend Thanksgiving. I was a little disappointed but I figured I could see them at Christmas time. Before the Christmas break, he called me again telling me the disappointing news they will not make it to Christmas neither. When my mother found out, she was upset and sad. So to help out with the expenses, my parents paid for their flights and a rental car. My brother and sister-in-law were very excited and thankful for what my parents had done. Now they need to figure out what to do for next year.
With Holidays coming up, it can cause many stresses to some people’s life. This can sometimes include financial problems, travel, traffic, plane delay, cleaning, and food. Like in my brother and sister-in-law’s situation, travel and financial problems were the main issues. One way to help out would be to earn some extra cash on the side to help pay for their travel. Then just have them pay me back in the future. I could tell them they could do the same by trying to find a part time job to help cover some of the cost. They could even work for my parents by completing chores around the house and on the ranch. My group could come up with some tips on how to save a little extra cash for the holidays. We would tell you how to save money, along with how to earn money on the side. This will help you prepare for the holidays a lot better. Every year there are an increasing amount of children and adults going hungry. My aunt loves to help out at the homeless shelters and participate in events like food drives. She has inspired many about giving to those who are not as fortunate as others. It has made me realize that just putting in a little of our time can dramatically impact someone’s life. What she is doing for the community is fantastic and I wish there were more like her. There are several wonderful ways to help people in need of food. My organization could hold food drives that support the hungry. We could increase the awareness of this problem. CCOU could get other organizations to start the same project in other towns. This could start a trend all over the state that would all go towards the same goal. Also to help with the food, we could try to get big ranches to donate meat to the shelters. Every year big ranches have to take off a fairly large amount of does in order to keep the population at a sustainable yield. If we could have them donate the meat that could ultimately feed many people. If we started that project, it could also turn into donating hunts for people that are less fortunate. This way they would get the opportunity to hunt and take home the meat. It would be a win win situation. Hunting is also a great way to relieve stress. It is wonderful to escape the city life and enjoy the great outdoors. Parents can take their kids out during the holidays for a little country get away. We could host these events through our website. All of these are great ideas that could help the holiday blues. Throwing ideas out there, getting people involved, and actually implementing a plan will solve many of these problems. Having an organization as a backbone will improve these chances. In 1871, two union veterans, William C. Church and George Wingate, formed an organization called the National Rifle Association. The goal of their organization was to enhance and stimulate rifle shooting on a more in depth scale. The major subscribers are analogous organizations, businesses, and the general public that has interest in sport shooting and hunting. The NRA is the foremost organization dealing with sport shooting, maintaining the heritage of hunting in America, and to continually advocate the right to bear arms in the United States. Due to new audiences, subscribers, and grants the NRA must expand every day. “But our successes would not be possible without the tireless efforts and countless hours of service our nearly four million members have given to champion Second Amendment rights and support NRA programs” (NRA website). The NRA foundation has raised over $186 million in grants. They provide an abundant amount of time and money into education and competitions. By holding annual meetings, informing the public about events and competitions, and educating the public they are able to generate money and members every year. The constituents of NRA include: men, women, youth, gun collectors, hunters, individuals with handicap disabilities, competitive shooters, and law enforcement. This organization provides the backbone in protecting the second amendment for all citizens. I love to hunt and shoot a variety of weapons. The NRA supports these activities by providing political powers, creating public interest, and influencing regulations concerning firearms. Every year the NRA holds a banquet in Schulenburg, TX. My family and I are always there learning new facts and entering the silent actions. This is a great way to spend money on something we value. We know the money is going towards activities like youth hunting and wildlife conservation. “Contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible and benefit a variety of American constituencies including youth, women, hunters, competitive shooters, gun collectors, law enforcement agents and persons with physical disabilities” (NRA website). The NRA does a great job getting their name out there and trying to gain new members. The NRA Clubs & Associations Department provides services and assistance to a network of over 14,000 NRA-affiliated clubs, associations, and businesses (NRA website). One of the unique training programs they offer include law enforcement. Today, there are more than 10,000 NRA-certified police and security firearms instructors (NRA website). They also provide educational firearms training programs, competitions, and safety meetings. This helps the public to understand they are not just trying to hand out guns to kids. They provide youth hunters with adequate safety training that will keep them safe in hunting situations. In civilian training, the NRA continues to be the leader in firearms education. Over 55,000 certified instructors now train about 750,000 gun owners a year (NRA website). The NRA is in support of the second amendment along with the support of Mitt Romney for president and Paul Ryan for Vice president. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will protect our Right to Keep and Bear Arms by appointing SupremeCourt justices who will uphold the rulings in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago – two landmark cases which held that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms for all law-abiding Americans (NRA website). If we were denied this right how would we be able to protect ourselves? It would make it a lot easier and tempting for murders and robbers to break into. An on going topic with NRA right now deals with handguns and assault rifles. Gun control groups are trying to bann assault weapons for good. Assault weapons are an important aspect of the military and competitive sport shooting. They account for about 15 percent of the 250+ million privately-owned firearms in the United States. They are used for the same purposes that other firearms are, including self-defense, hunting, and recreational and competitive target shooting (NRA-ILA). This contoversary has been around for a while now and will continue to be a topic. I do not think they will ever pass a law banning assault weapons. They have found that more murder victims are shot with handguns rather than assault rifles. This organization is supported through people all over the world. They know the rights of the people and try to keep those rights for us. Through members, grants, and banquets they are able to provide money and grants to education and gun safety programs through all states. Having youth sport competitions helps children learn the aspects and fundamentals of shooting and hunting. I will support this organization as long as they are well functional and share my beliefs. www.NRA.com |
