Last year, my brother and sister-in-law moved to North Carolina. She was completing a residency for pharmacy school for two years. They discovered many financial needs dealing with travel, rent, and school. When Thanksgiving and Christmas came around they were really skeptical about traveling back to Texas for both holidays. I have a close family and we had never been split apart for the holidays before. They were worried about the cost of flight tickets and renting a vehicle. About a month before Thanksgiving I received news form my brother saying they will not be able to attend Thanksgiving. I was a little disappointed but I figured I could see them at Christmas time. Before the Christmas break, he called me again telling me the disappointing news they will not make it to Christmas neither. When my mother found out, she was upset and sad. So to help out with the expenses, my parents paid for their flights and a rental car. My brother and sister-in-law were very excited and thankful for what my parents had done. Now they need to figure out what to do for next year.
With Holidays coming up, it can cause many stresses to some people’s life. This can sometimes include financial problems, travel, traffic, plane delay, cleaning, and food. Like in my brother and sister-in-law’s situation, travel and financial problems were the main issues. One way to help out would be to earn some extra cash on the side to help pay for their travel. Then just have them pay me back in the future. I could tell them they could do the same by trying to find a part time job to help cover some of the cost. They could even work for my parents by completing chores around the house and on the ranch. My group could come up with some tips on how to save a little extra cash for the holidays. We would tell you how to save money, along with how to earn money on the side. This will help you prepare for the holidays a lot better.
Every year there are an increasing amount of children and adults going hungry. My aunt loves to help out at the homeless shelters and participate in events like food drives. She has inspired many about giving to those who are not as fortunate as others. It has made me realize that just putting in a little of our time can dramatically impact someone’s life. What she is doing for the community is fantastic and I wish there were more like her.
There are several wonderful ways to help people in need of food. My organization could hold food drives that support the hungry. We could increase the awareness of this problem. CCOU could get other organizations to start the same project in other towns. This could start a trend all over the state that would all go towards the same goal. Also to help with the food, we could try to get big ranches to donate meat to the shelters. Every year big ranches have to take off a fairly large amount of does in order to keep the population at a sustainable yield. If we could have them donate the meat that could ultimately feed many people. If we started that project, it could also turn into donating hunts for people that are less fortunate. This way they would get the opportunity to hunt and take home the meat. It would be a win win situation. Hunting is also a great way to relieve stress. It is wonderful to escape the city life and enjoy the great outdoors. Parents can take their kids out during the holidays for a little country get away. We could host these events through our website. All of these are great ideas that could help the holiday blues. Throwing ideas out there, getting people involved, and actually implementing a plan will solve many of these problems. Having an organization as a backbone will improve these chances.
